Towel Day

Hope everybody has enjoyed their Towel Day, I sure did enjoy mine. And yes, I did carry my towel with me to everywhere I went :)

The towel day is a tribute to Douglas Adams, one of my heroes.

There’s no place like 127.0.0.1

I finally got my ThinkGeek.com order. Prototype Cheatsheet

Prototype cheatsheetJonathan Snook has created a fantastic set of cheatsheets to detail every method and property that was available for Prototype Library 1.5.0_pre0 (at the time of writing, the Prototype Library is at version 1.4). All you web2.0’ers should now bow down and thank Mr. Snook for this great contribute.

There’s 1280x960 and 1440x900 versions with both, black and white backgrounds. Also Mr. Youri op ‘t Roodt has put his 2 cents in the game and created vector based PDF to easy up printing (can be found from the article).

As for practical reference, these developer notes by Sergio Pereira could do the trick.

Waiting For You

I am praying for the raging flood I am waiting for you to come

Has it already been so long?

As you might have noticed, the frontpage told for very long time about server change (and also had a strange… thing bouncing and running backwards).

I’ll write something about it and clear stuff out of the way in a second, before that I wanna say sorry to all my friends for not being in contact with em, work has really taken all my time.

Server Change MediaTemple

Darkbase.org, plus couple of more sites, including Hollow13.net, are now located on a spanking MediaTemple (ss) Shared Server. This is the most biggest change around here for long time. Now you know what has keeping my site, plus other stuff off the net for about 2 months. A lot of “we won’t work under these settings”-errors, some parts may not work still. I’m trying to make everything work as soon as possible.

Wordpress DBN The theme you are seeing now, is (as you might already know) Wordpress theme K2 by the maker of the Kubrick theme that is currently the default theme of Wordpress. K2, altho it’s in Beta phase, has already proven to be stable and flexible enough to fill my needs.

Also I update finally to the 2.0.2 version. Laziness and the amount of time has been keeping me of doing this upgrade.

Projects of these months Some of the projects I’ve had on my hands are (and some has already) finally come alive. Here’s a short list of the work I’ve been doing lately.

Gnuband.com Gnuband.com logo Re-coded the PHP of the site mostly, updated the layout to match the new records theme. I suggest taking a look at the “Pala Tulessa!“-single that can be downloaded from the site.

Movie & Kanel Movie is currently on slower development phase, I’m gonna add it to the catalog system that goes by the name of Kanel.

The Kanel System will have multiuser support, meaning you can join in and rate the movies PLUS having sweet system to list out your dvd’s, vhs’, cd’s and books.

Some key features could be set to be: Multiuser system, Catalog features, Rating and commenting possibilities of items, plus user profile commenting.

For that reason, I’m taking Movie away from the public eyes, and starting to plan the system.

Lime, the solution to gig logging. Seen a lot of gigs from different bands? Wanna keep record of the shows you’ve seen? Wanna know what artist you’ve seen the most? Then Lime is your choice for a system.

This multiuser system will help you keep track of the gigs you’ve seen, as long as you remember to add them to the database.

The current planning includes these features for the system: Multiuser system, listing and rating gigs, statistics of all the aspects you can think of, forums and much more.

Plus extra sweet the deal goes when I say: I have been planning everything so when you register to the system, you can use every system I’ve set to the public usage.

Final words As you can see, a lot of things has been happened, many nights I’ve coded till 3am to stay in the schedule I’ve set myself. Many times I have cursed and many times I’ve felt strong sense of success when solved some problems in coding or layout related things.

Now you know what I have been cooking around lately, hope everybody understands why I haven’t staid in contact so often as I should have.

20 and some

So, 22nd was my birthday, I’m 20 years old now.

Mac hacked in 30 minutes (sic)

Within hours of going live, the “rm-my-mac” competition was over. The challenger posted this message on his Web site: > “This sucks. Six hours later this poor little Mac was owned and this page got defaced”. The hacker that won the challenge, who asked ZDNet Australia to identify him only as “gwerdna”, said he gained root control of the Mac in less than 30 minutes. - zdnet.com.au

That was the medias view of what happened.

“Watch out though, I’m coming to get you with a whole book of undocumented exploits! Just create me an admin account on your machine first and close your eyes!” - Cult of Mac Blog

And this was what really happened.

Please read both news articles.

Tonights conclusion

After fighting with my wireless network for almost 2 hours, not finding a reason why it won’t let me to internet nor to the local network, I gave up and talked with my friend on the phone. After 5 minutes, suddenly everything worked perfectly.

The conclusion: Technology = Black Magic = Evil.

I know this because I have witnessed repairing a Microsoft Windows network by changing the places of two towels in the bathroom.

My wireless AP is trying to wreck my nerves or it has become the Skynet.

Geek test

The Innergeek Geek Test might be one of the most well known(?) geek tests around. The version I took was 3.1, the newest at the time.

Take it and tell me the scores :) Virtual cookie to the one that gets more score than me.

My score: 57.988817% - Extreme Geek

Hemingway powered darkbase

There it is, my customization of the Hemingway -theme designed by Kyle Neath.

As you can see, he has done some nice work on this theme. Things I have done are just minor modifications.

I’ll keep working on this very nice system live, so some stuff might seem to be broken. If you find serious errors, like 404 (File not found) errors, or php is generating errors, please, post those errors here.

Enjoy.

Project: Wallpaper testing site

You might remember (or not) a script I created to test out website backgrounds.

Yesterday, I had some spare time and guess what, wallpaper.darkbase.org was re-coded to 1.5 version.

I’ve been collecting logs for the project since it first started and I’ve been amazed how well and how much it has been used. Thank you all who has been using it.

HotLinking is something that shouldn’t be done, but if you don’t have any other choise, I won’t deny it. Just keep in mind that I’m not responsible if your images change or do not show anymore. You just have to relink or find a steady host for the couple of kilobytes worth of image.

Anyways, something extra sweet was added to the system, now you can check how the background works with black, or white backgrounds. All this has been done by using simple javascript.

Enjoy.

We’re big now

finnish sounds like two alphabets went to nuclear war and the fallout mutated it into something seriously fucked up with lots of i’s and e’s.

Few videos to make you smile

After some browsing, found some funny videos to make you smile :)

There were 5, I smiled (with diffirent kind of feelings) when watching these. The “High School Band Plays DJ Shadow” is more like a “wow”-video. Those kids got mad skills.

Project: Movie

Another project of mine is seeing the daylight.

I love watching movies and believe me, I do alot of it.

I sometimes watch 3 or 4 movies in a day. Because I watch that much movies, I started thinking I should have somekind of list of movies I’ve seen and might even have some star-based rating system to separate the bad movies from the good ones I might watch again sometime later. This was the key idea behind Movie.

[insert screenshot] Movie v.2 has been under development for over 4 months and it contains over 1700 lines of code. I’ve used it mainly to develop my PHP-knowledge and programming skills.

I would like to thank Tomi for his aid on the coding and Jani for helping out with the design :)

Survey

A worldwide survey was conducted by the UN. The only question asked was: “Would you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?”

The survey was a huge failure… In Africa they didn’t know what “food” meant. In Eastern Europe they didn’t know what “honest” meant. In Western Europe they didn’t know what “shortage” meant. In China they didn’t know what “opinion” meant. In the Middle East they didn’t know what “solution” meant. In South America they didn’t know what “please” meant. And in the USA they didn’t know what “the rest of the world” meant

Thank you benja.
